An auction sniper is the name given to a certain type of software program that automatically monitors auction listings on your behalf.

1. You tell the sniper which eBay auctions you want to 'snipe', using the unique 'item number' for each auction.
   
   
2. Type in your maximum bid (the sniper will never bid over this amount).
   
   
3. Then, 5-10 seconds before the auction ends, the sniper jumps in and places your bid for you. This leaves the other bidders with no time to counter bid.
   
   
4. You win the auction without you having to lift a single finger, or be anywhere near your computer when the auction ends.
